POTW: Plan Of The Week - W/E 6.13.15

    Hey all!!

    One thing that I really enjoy is talking about what we are working on. Not only does it make what I am doing more transparent, but I find that if I write it down, and then put it in public, it makes it easier to stick to my targets. So weekly, along with my development update, I will let you know what I plan to get done in a given week as a minimum. Sometimes, like last weekend, there is bonus stuff! :-D

    As I get things done, green means it's done or virtually done, yellow means in progress, and white means I haven't started yet. Red means that I will not be able to complete this week, either due to unexpected circumstances or it simply being more complex than first anticipated.

    Anyway, here's the plan for this week's build:
    • Add new planets from Pavlos (47 per type!!! And they look incredible!!!)
    • Add nebulas to systems
    • Add nebulas to galaxy
    • Create planet trait XML database
    • Create planet trait data class
    • Create pop data class
    • Create tile data class (note: this will probably be called a 'region' in the game; 'tile' is not very intuitive)
    • Add tile generation function
    • Add tile testing UI (Static panel showing habitable tiles and a random tile to test generation)
    • Update planet generation data with updated generation parameters (mainly to dial down rare and heavy minerals)
    • Update star generation data
    • Add star specials

    Hey Nicolas,

    I am appending the planet's special trait database as we speak. You can either post those ideas here, or mail them to me and Steve (you got my mail)! I will work on the traits today and a part of tomorrow, then Steve will work them in. So hurry before this train leaves :)

    I am joking of course, traits will be easily added afterwards. I currently have 143 traits. Join the fun !

    ...and received Nicolas. Will incorporate what does not yet exist on the trait list. That should make the traits reach the 170 bar. Good. We need tons of planetary traits, because there will be lots of planets. Anyone here with astronomy or geology degrees and/ or ideas to help us out ? If yes, send me a private message !!!

    I love the 'aphrodisiac atmosphere'. "honey, there's a draft, can you close the windoooOOooow oh no dear, come here....". :)

    Well, I've been posting alphas for a few weeks now. I think the question you're really asking is 'when will an alpha that we can actually do something with be ready?' If so, probably in 3 or 4 weeks. Maybe sooner. We have nailed down most of the core and foundational stuff, and I think we have pretty good agreement on how to proceed moving forward so you will see steady progress. It's important to have the game universe able to run on its own before you start adding the human element, which is what we're going to start work on this week!

    Not unless you're a tester. That said, I would really like your input if you're interested in jumping in this early. I've had one or two testers I've had to drop due to lack of feedback, so it's up to you!

    I'd love to be a tester - I waste enough of my time playing games, I shouldn't have any trouble fitting it in :p
